GPS Data panel available for Adobe CS5 Products

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

John Nack announces the availability of a GPS Data panel for Photoshop CS5.

Hopefully this sees the start of increased focus on GPS in Adobe products. They have plenty of support but not a fully coherent solution as seen in a product like Aperture.

However, the installation method leaves a lot to be desired, which seems to be a running theme with Adobe installers! I remember an update of Illustrator where you essentially had to open the Application Package just to put a small file in a specific place. The inverse of this is the latest issue with the Flash installer for Mac, where a traditional installer is wrapped in an Adobe AIR package.

Anyway here are the correct installation instructions for a Mac.

1. Download the Disk Image here.

2. In the Finder, press Apple + Shift + G and paste in this path:

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/3.0/panels/

3. Create a folder called gpsData

4. Copy all of the contents of the Disk Image into the gpsData folder.

5. Restart Photoshop

Camera Support – A Big Fat Reminder

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

With the release of Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Camera Raw 6.0 it is worth a ‘big fat reminder’ that users who choose not to upgrade are not left behind in terms of Camera Support.

Here is something I wrote before as a useful reminder of the ins and outs of upgrades.

Adobe Lens Profile Creator

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Adobe has released a prerelease of the Adobe Lens Profile Creator to Adobe Labs. This is a free utility which allows for the easy creation of Lens Profiles which can be used in Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3.0 (full release) and Adobe Camera Raw.

These Lens profiles can correct for lens aberrations; geometric distortion, lateral chromatic aberration and vignetting.

Try it out at Adobe Labs then share your feedback on the Lens Profile Creator forum.

Lightroom -v- Aperture

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

For the last two years InfoTrends has mapped the tools Professional photographers use for Raw processing.

John Nack has posted the results showing that Lightroom seems to be gaining in popularity over Aperture.

A healthy dose of reality to mention that Aperture is Mac only whereas Lightroom is cross-platform.

Some Configurator Love

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Dave Cross puts Configurator through its paces as does Webmonkey from Wired Magazine.

To me Configurator is the start of an amazing transformation in the way we use and interact with applications. I have been using Photoshop since 1.0.7 and have seen it transformed from a simple pixel pushing and paint application into something humungous. There are many parts I use, but there are also parts I will probably never use. Configurator is an easy way to cut down on the cruft and focus on what you really need!

And who knows it might lead to all Adobe Applications being more configurable including Lightroom!

Photoshop CS4 Released; Camera Raw 5.1 update coming soon

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Photoshop CS4 has been released with Camera Raw 5; this offers Lightroom 2.0 parity. However, Tom Hogarty mentions that a 5.1 update will happen next week to add support for some of the new cameras released recently.

Adobe Configurator for Photoshop CS4

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Yes this is a Lightroom Blog, but when something interesting happens with the ‘daddy’, Photoshop, it will be worth a mention.

Adobe Configurator will be out soon on Adobe Labs and it is a really interesting customization utility for Photoshop CS4. It allows you to create your own custom panels for CS4, which can contain the most frequently used tools, scripts, actions etc. It uses the Adobe AIR platform and John Nack has a blog post about it, with links to videos and screenshots.

When you get CS4, if you do, then run and fetch Configurator, it will really open your eyes!!
